In the meeting Prime Minister Prachanda expressed commitment to take action against the guilty of the killing of journalist Singh. Mentioning that the murder has shocked the government, the PM said with journalists, “Whoever is responsible for the killing won’t be able to escape.” Dahal who is also the Maoist Chairman, however, said that even the Maoist cadres will be punished if found guilty.
Nepali journalists’ umbrella organization, the FNJ announced a five-day protest programme yesterday demanding action against the murderers, security for journalists in Terai, proper respect for slain journalist Singh from the state and security for her family, among others.
Journalist Singh was murdered on Sunday night by an unidentified group of 20 men. Even after five days, no arrests have been made so far. A report earlier said that the police had arrested four men suspecting their involvement in the killing. However, their identity was not made public. Singh is believed to be the first female journalist to be murdered.
